SHILLONG, Nov 14: Reacting to reports that a circular has been passed in North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institution for Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) through which the serving of non – vegetarian food has been stopped in the super-specialty hospital, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has sought the intervention of the Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
In a letter to Nadda, HSPDP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said, “I strongly condemn this act and request you to direct the institute authorities to restore the sale of non-vegeterian food at food outlets at NEIGRIHMS.”
He said that non-vegeterian food at the institute has been stopped since the joining of the new Director Dr DM Thappa.
According to him, the public had approached the party and given vent to their anger for the inconveniences they are facing at NEIGRIHMS.
Basaiawmoit also claimed that an investigating team sent by the party also found some truth in the complaints.
Stating that this is an ill founded action on the part of the NEIGRIHMS director, Basaiawmoit said that this is an attack on the food habits of the indigenous people of North East.
