TURA, Nov 06: Former Meghalaya Speaker and resident of Kharkutta constituency, ED Marak recently shot off a letter to the BJP legislator of Dudhnoi in Assam, Dipok Rabha seeking a bridge over a river near Athiabari after residents complained to the ex legislator on the matter.

In the letter to Rabha, Marak (who is now an associate member of the BJP) apprised him of the state of people living around the area near Dobangal (Athiabari) on the Assam side.
“There are no bridges to help people get across and the makeshift subway that has been made is muddy and extremely hazardous for people, including school children to get across. The same is frequented by many Assam based picnic goers who cross the same bridge to get to Nakachikong (Huhuwa). We would therefore like your held in helping sanctioning a bridge across the river for the sake of people of both states,” said Marak in the letter.
Locals had earlier confirmed to Marak the fact that the Dudhnoi legislator had visited the area and was aware of the problems of the people.
“We had earlier met the BDO of Rangjuli on the matter who had assured of looking into the matter and the same would be done soon. However he had advised to contact the MLA (Dipok Rabha) as the block did not have the funds for the bridge. We would request you to kindly look into the matter at the earliest in order to alleviate the problems faced by the people,” added the former Speaker.
