SHILLONG, Oct 18: Shillong MP, Vincent Pala made an interesting statement on Tuesday wherein he said that the roads in Meghalaya are no better off than those he has seen in Switzerland.
“I have been to Switzerland and other European countries and let me tell you that when you travel the West Khasi Hills roads, it feels like Switzerland and no country has better roads than us,” Pala said.

“In terms of highways, we have the best highways in the whole country,” he added.
On the issue of roads, Pala said that the repair work for the 4 km stretch of highway in Umsning and Umiam Dam will commence within a week’s time.
This comes months after Pala wrote a letter to Union Minister of Road transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkri complaining about the bad stretch of the National Highway at Umsning and the Umiam Dam.
“The repair work will be initiated within this week. He has replied to me that the matter has been forwarded to the chief engineer to take up the necessary steps and that the repair work will begin within a week,” said Pala.
Asked who is to be blamed for the delay in the completion of the 4 km stretch of the highway in Umsning, Pala said, “You can’t blame the Centre nor the State for the pathetic condition of the 4 km stretch of the highway in Umsning because the government has no say on private property and it was the land acquisition which caused the delay.”
Furthermore, Pala said “The repair work will be initiated within this week.
