SHILLONG, Sep 08: Clarifying on the stance of the United Democratic Party (UDP) with regards to a post poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the general secretary of the UDP, Jemino Mawthoh has stated that this will all depend on the results of the ensuing 2018 polls.
In a statement issued here on Friday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said, “As to the post poll scenario, it will naturally be guided by the outcome of the general election.”
On Thursday, while reacting to a query whether the UDP will have a post poll alliance with the BJP, the UDP senior working president Bindo M Lanong said, “How can we be inimical to the BJP as it is important and good to have link with the powers that be.”
Mawthoh however said that the Party has categorically stated that the Alliance with HSPDP in Khasi Jaintia Hills and GNC in Garo Hills is forming the next government in 2018, in which the party is confident of playing the key role.
He said that the party is determined to keep the Congress out of the corridors of power and its course of action will be determined keeping that objective in mind.
