Government calls for calm Reassures public of authenticity of rice in state

SHILLONG, Aug 10: Vouching for the quality of rice being sold in the open market in the state, the Government of Meghalaya has categorically shot down rumours that ‘plastic rice’ is currently being sold in the state.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the state’s Joint Commissioner of Food Safety said, “The analysis reports of all the four samples have been received and are reported to be conforming to standards and no extraneous matters were found in the samples of rice.”


“Hence, the consumers in the state are requested not to panic on the rumours of alleged plastic rice,” the official stated.
Earlier, a complaint was received from the representatives a local news channel along with the samples of rice alleged to be plastic rice in the brand name of Arham collected by them from a village near Umsning, Ri Bhoi District.
The same was handed over to the Joint Commissioner of Food Safety, Meghalaya, who immediately sent the alleged sample of rice along with 3 other samples of rice drawn by the Food Safety Officer randomly from the market for analysis to the Food Analyst to the Government of Assam, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati.
