Incessant rains trigger landslides at Nongstoin

SHILLONG, Aug 10: Monsoon showers wreaked havoc at Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district as heavy rains triggered landslides at various places while the district administration is on alert.


In one such incident incessant rain caused landslide at the Nonbah taxi stand of new Nongstoin, early on Thursday morning.
A huge amount of earth came crashing down to the road beneath and covered it with mud and stone. No damage to life or property was reported.
The place was without any car or pedestrians during the occurrence of the incident.
A taxi driver from Nonbah also the assistance general secretary of taxi association, Pynlangbor Syiem, urged upon the PWD department of the district to look into the matter and to ensure safety of the public.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, Arun Kumar Kembhavi informed that all the officers are directed to be in station and be prepared.
He has also asked all the Block Development Officers to be in constant touch with the public.
