TURA, Aug 09: The Achik Youth Council (AYC) has came down heavily on MLAs of Garo Hills as well as PWD authorities after an overturned truck blocked the entire NH 51 en route to Dalu from Tura leaving a huge number of passengers stranded.
“We condemn the authorities for neglect shown towards Garo Hills based NH roads. The ministers of the state and the MLAs seemingly can’t see the present situation and the bad condition of the NH-51 and 62 roads because they are enjoying in the state capital, Shillong. There is no interest on Garo Hills based NHs and other PWD roads of Garo Hills,” said AYC president, Dimseng Marak on Wednesday.

“Without roads nothing can pass anywhere and is still being neglected by the government. The Tura – Dalu and Dalu – Baghamra, road is in pathetic state and passengers have to face an ordeal on a daily basis” he added while asking the Tura MP, Conrad K Sangma to also look into the matter on an urgent basis.
The NGO further expressed its suspicion of anomalies in road repairs by authorities as the road being repaired on a regular basis has not brought any changes in their overall condition.
“The reason for the roads remaining the same can only be to make more schemes and issue more work orders to contractors. This only benefits the contractors and some persons of the concerned department. We would like to urge both the state and the central government to look into the matter and to take necessary and immediate action on both NH 51 and NH 62 along with PWD roads in Garo Hills,” added Dimseng.
