TURA, Aug 08: South Garo Hills (SGH) police have shot down rumours of the surrender of the elusive commander of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Sohan D Shira after such reports of him surrendering to the police in South Garo Hills had surfaced following the surrender of senior cadre and close aide, Baltush Marak.
Rumours of the outfit’s chief laying down arms were first floated on Facebook leading to the same going viral. Security and intelligence went into an overdrive immediately after the rumour broke through though there was no confirmation from any source on the validity of the news.

SGH police later put a dampener on things stating that there was no basis to the rumour and Sohan had actually not surrendered.
“It is a diversionary tactic and he has not surrendered,” confirmed SGH police chief, Sohan D Shira on Tuesday.
Meanwhile rumours of the outfit’s chief carrying a leg injury have also been doing the rounds on social media, though there was no confirmation or denial from either police or the outfit on the matter.
