TURA, May 19: Police have identified the prime suspects of the sensational assault case near Narangkol under Bajengdoba police station limits besides arresting one of the three involved in the gruesome murder.
On May 12, two brothers of Assam, who were working in North Garo Hills in various capacities, were brutally assaulted by three people at about 9 pm when they were close to the village of Narangkol in NGH. The brutal assault led to the death of one Aminul Islam and the hospitalization of his brother Mostafa Ahmed.
The two brothers hailed from the village of Simulbari in Goalpara district of Assam.
“We received information from sources on the involvement of three people in the crime and arrested one Sanjit G Momin (21 of Malchapara). He revealed details of what happened and we are now on the lookout for the other two,” said a highly placed source of the NGH police on Friday.
According to police sources, on the fateful day, the three suspects were drinking near the road after coming back from a wedding when the prime suspect in the murder, Tengrak B Marak (30) received a call. Immediately after the call, he stopped the two brothers who were walking towards Bajengdoba.
Tengrak forcefully began an argument with them leading to the three beginning the assault on the two brothers from Assam.
“They were beaten with wooden sticks and bamboos till both were close to death. The three then abandoned them and ran after which villagers informed the police when they saw the two injured persons near the road,” added the police source.
Sources said that Mostafa, who was critical after the assault is now out of danger.
Tengrak B Marak hails from Baljek Ading and is married near Kherapara, both of which fall in West Garo Hills. He allegedly escaped a few days after the murder from NGH. The third person, who was involved in the murder is yet to be named but is suspected to be a close associate of the criminal. He too is currently absconding.
Interestingly the criminal (Tengrak) was out on bail in another case of kidnapping under Dadenggre Police Station limits. He was given bail in the case only in the month of January this year. He was also arrested earlier in another 2 cases in WGH, at least one of which involved murder.
