SHILLONG, April 20: With four of its MDCs not complying with the party’s directive to withdraw support to the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) led Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the United Democratic Party will soon serve these MDCs show cause notices with the possibility of them being expelled from the party.
“I have sent a proposal to the party chief to immediate convene a meeting and if necessary for an emergent meeting Central Executive Committee (CEC) to deal with the matter,” UDP senior working president Bindo M Lanong said here on Thursday.

He said under the disciplinary provision of the Constitution of the party, show-cause notices should be served to them (MDCs), and that if their replies are unsatisfactory, they shuld be expelled.
“We will not allow them to ransack the party like this,” Lanong said while stating that the MDCs should have made their point clear in the CEC meeting, where they were part and parcel of the unanimous decision taken.
It may be mentioned here that the UDP in its CEC meeting held on April 17 had asked all its six MDCs to pull out of the ruling PDF in the KHADC led by Congress suspended member PN Syiem for its alleged corrupt practices.
However, it came as a big blow to the UDP when four of its MDCs – Teinwell Dkhar, Donkupar Sumer, Albinus Lyngdoh and Equator Nongrang decided to continue to support the PDF led executive committee.
The two remaining UDP MDCs, Hispreaching Son Shylla and Rona Khyndeit meanwhile are towing the party line.
“I do not have to withdraw support to the PDF because I have never supported it ever since I was elected as an MDC,” Shylla has said in this regard.
He also said that he along with Khyndeit will now sit in the Opposition in the KHADC and that he will intimate the Chairman of the KHADC of their wish so that seating arrangements can be arranged.
He also informed that Khyndeit has withdrawn her support to the PDF as per the party direction.
