SHILLONG, April 18: The announcement that the United Democratic Party (UDP) has withdrawn support to the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) led Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is ‘meaningless’ according to CEM, PN Syiem who pointed out that the party’s MDCs are yet to resign from the EC.
“I have received a letter from the UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh informing about the party’s decision to withdraw support to the PDF. However it is meaningless because till now none of its MDCs have resigned,” Syiem said here on Tuesday.
Out of 6 MDCs of the UDP, two of them – Donkupar Sumer and Albinus Lyngdoh are holding the posts of executive members (EMs) while two others – Teinwell Dkhar and Rona Khymdeit are chairmen in the PDF led EC.
Stating that in the KHADC, the views of the MDCs are more important than that of the MLAs, Syiem said, “Just as the 10th schedule of the Constitution cannot apply in the district council so is the decision of a party.”
“The letter of the UDP will not apply in the KHADC,” he said while informing that he would immediately forward the copy of the letter to all the MDCs of the UDP for their final decision.
According to him, the decision of the MDCs will be taken into consideration.
