Solitary Gurkha vanquishes 40 train robbers

SHILLONG, April 16: Bishnu Shrestha, a brave Gurkha Soldier of the valiant Indian Army successfully took on 40 train robbers while returning home after a voluntary retirement recently earning him the Shourya chakra, Bravey award and Sarvottam Jeevan Rakshak medals.

While on the train, the Maurya Express running from Ranchi to Gorkhapur, this 35 year old Bishnu saved a girl about to be raped by the train robbers in front of her helpless parents, army officials informed on Sunday.
After looting the train, when the robbers started to strip an 18 year old girl in front of him, he couldn’t contain rage. He took out his kukari and took on the group of 40 robbers alone.
In the fight, he killed three of the robbers and injured eight others while emaining dacoits fled the scene to save their lives.
Later the victim’s family offered him a large cash reward, but he refused it while saying, “Fighting the enemy in battle is my duty as a soldier. Taking on the thugs on the train was my duty as a human being.”
