NEHU VC calls for teachers to meet demands of society

SHILLONG, April 08: The Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof SK Srivastava has urged the college teachers to rise up and build, to meet the demands of the society pertaining to higher education.
Speaking at the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association 32nd Biennial General Conference held at St. Edmund’s College on Saturday, he stated that changes are taking in the sphere of higher education, therefore it is imperative for the teachers to strive for excellence in higher education. Informing about the development of community colleges in the state he felt that vocational education is the need of the hour especially to solve the issue of unemployability faced by the youth.


While pointing out that change is imperative he suggested that perhaps change in the academic calendar is also required keeping in mind the outcome with regards to student movement thereafter.
The Guests of Honour, Prof Biswajit Bhuyan, National Secretary, All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organizations (AIFUCTO) and Prof M. Lokendro Singh, AIFUCTO Zonal Secretary NE, both asked the MCTA as an association to form a strong bond with the national teachers organisation to fight for the rights of the teachers and for furthering the development of higher education.
Present on the occasion were Principals of the various deficit and adhoc colleges of the state, special invitees from the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, former Presidents and former General Secretaries of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association, our beloved retired colleagues , Members of M.C.T.A. from the different units. On the occasion retired teachers of the association were also felicitated.
