SHILLONG, April 06: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has demanded that the state government cancels the land allotment for the proposed construction of a guest house by the Nagaland government in Mawdiangdiang.
Meeting the Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh here on Thursday on the issue, the union said that it is not against giving land for state guest houses and however asked the state government to re-allot land to Nagaland government elsewhere.

Lyngdoh meanwhile has informed the KSU delegation led by its president, Lambokstarwell Marngar that the state government will examine the demand for the cancellation of the land allotment.
“The minister has assured the members of the union that he would examine the demand before taking a decision on the matter,” Marngar said after meeting the Minister.
He said that the minister had also revealed before the delegation that the land allotted to the state government of Nagaland at New Shillong Township was not done during his time.
“The land, which located near the super specialty health institute - NEIGHRIMS was allotted when the present Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was the then Urban Affairs Minister,” he said.
The KSU chief said that the union demands that the particular plot should be used for providing lodging facilities to the people coming from the various parts of the state for treatment in NEIGHRIMS.
According to him, people especially from rural areas who come to NEIGHRIMS for treatment are facing undue hardships in absence of lodging facilities.
On the other hand, KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said, “We will continue to oppose this decision because the state government needs to understand that first preference should be for the people of the state, who have voted for them.”
