PHE, SCB served deadline to address water scarcity

SHILLONG, March 02: The Assembly Committee on Subordinate Legislation has served a 10-day deadline to the PHE and SCB to address the problem of scarcity of water supply faced by the residents in the city.
Senior officials of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and elected ward members of the Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) were summoned by the committee during a meeting convened by its chairman Sanbor Shullai held here on Thursday.

After this meeting, Shullai said that several complaints have been received from the people of Jhalupara area on the problem of shortage of water supply in the area.
He also informed that meeting held on February 26, it was resolved that the PHE and SCB should be summoned to ensure that the grievance is redressed.
“In today’s meeting, we have given 10 days time to them and they should accordingly furnish report before this committee,” Shullai said.
The Committee chairman however said that if the matter is not resolved within 10 days, based on the decision of recently held meeting, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) as all residents are paying water tax.
