SHILLONG, Feb 28: A proposal to merge the Plan and Non Plan classification in the state’s budget was approved by the state cabinet which met here on Tuesday afternoon.
“We have approved the proposal for merger of Plan and Non Plan expenditure in the state budget,” Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma informed after the cabinet meeting which stretched to over five hours on Tuesday.
He said with this there will no longer be any segregation in as far as the expenditure is concerned.
Stating that the Union government has already started exercising this model in its recent Budget, Dr. Sangma said that this was done based on deliberations held earlier.
“So all the states are already in transition period so is our state,” he said.
Asked, the Chief Minister said this has been done because having Plan and Non Plan is not necessary at all.
According to him, in the upcoming budget session, the Plan and Non Plan expenditure will not reflect anymore as part of the exercise. He however said in the absence of this, the departments will still know what money is for what development and cost establishment.
