SHILLONG, Jan 06: The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Labour & Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya made a startling revelation on Friday wherein he stated that Meghalaya has utilized only Rs 90 lakhs of the Rs 80.42 crore it has collected as labour cess.
“The state government has collected labour cess of Rs 80.42 crore but was able to spent only Rs 90 lakh,” Dattatreya said here on Friday.
Slamming the State Government over the issue, Dattatreya said that this was also brought to light during a regional conference of labour ministers held on Thursday.
Dattatreya has also directed the state government to ensure that the amount collected is fully utilized for the purpose of the welfare of the construction workers and not to divert it to other purposes.
“I have asked the state government to see that all the Rs 80 crore amount should go to the very purpose of the welfare, education, scholarship and employment of the construction workers,” he said.
