TURA, Dec 21: Aimed at ushering in rapid development in West Garo Hills (WGH) district, the base for the farmers’ market complex and Integrated Training and Social Mobilization Centre was laid by the Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma at Doldegre near Tura on Wednesday.
Speaking during the programme, Dr. Sangma pointed out that the project will bring in a suitable environment to the farmers in line with the government’s measures to ensure rapid development in the district and the state as a whole.
Pointing out how this new complex can differ from others in the country, Dr. Sangma said, “It should be a place where one can relieve their stress while shopping with a place to relax including a food court.”
Speaking about similar projects in the region, Dr. Sangma said that similar market complexes at Doldegre, Chokpot, Betasing and Mawrynkneng will be designed with the aim of making them some of the most beautiful markets in the State.
“Doldegre is going to be the heart of all developmental activities which would allow natural expansion of Tura town,” he said even as he pointed out that the coming up of the medical college and other key infrastructure in the area will act as a fillip to this development.
Dr. Sangma also expressed his concern over the effects that demonetization has had on the farming community and requested the district officials to help in mitigating the problems currently being faced by the farming community.
Complex is being built at a cost of Rs. 12,69, 997, 00 and will comprise 130 rooms including auction platform, cold storage facilities a conference room besides other amenities.
Dr. Sangma also expressed his gratitude to the village head and relatives of the Doldegre A’king land (community land) for their generous contribution for the said project.
