SHILLONG, Dec 19: Projects which will be implemented under the one - time special assistance of Rs. 133.12 crore from the Centre will be undertaken on a war footing by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The decision to do so was arrived at during a meeting convened by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem with all the MDCs here on Monday after the State Level Committee (SLC) has approved the project proposals.
Over 1000 project proposals at an estimated cost of Rs 123 crore were cleared during a meeting of the SLC headed by the Chief Secretary KS Kropha which was held last week.
“The meeting with all the members was called to ensure that the implementation of all the projects is completed within stipulated time frame,” Syiem informed after the meeting.
He also informed that the KHADC is already in the process of releasing work orders to all the MDCs for implementing the development schemes in their respective constituencies.
“We have also asked the members to ensure that the contractors to whom the work is allotted are competent enough to implement the schemes and complete them on time,” he said.
Syiem said that this is being done is to ensure that there is no delay on the part of the KHADC to submit the utilization certificates thereby improving the chances of the Centre releasing new grants to the Council.
He also expressed his hope that the state government would immediately release the funds for the approved projects.
