TURA, Dec 18: Fuelled by the recent win in the KHADC and JHADC bye-elections and pumped up to secure seats in the upcoming  2018 Assembly polls, the youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) held its annual general meeting at Asanang in West Garo Hills to chalk out strategies for UDP’s reign in Garo Hills.
The prime focus of the meeting was on the upcoming 2018 Assembly polls besides a hoard of other issues concerning the public in Garo hills.
During the meeting party members agreed to the fact that more work needed to be done at the grass root level for the party to have any chance of making a strong bid in the Assembly elections in 2018.

“We have to be more proactive in ensuring that we make our presence felt. We will be taking up issues on a more rigourous way in the coming months. Many RTIs are being filed to find out scams that have affected all,” said joint secretary Anand Marak.
“We are buoyed by the success of the party in the recent Council elections in KHADC and would like to congratulate E Nongrong and HS Shylla on their win. We will definitely work harder at the ground level here in Garo Hills to change the fortunes of the party,” he asserted.
The youth meeting also discussed problems being faced post demonetization, the alleged scam within the GHADC, transportation of coal as well as the anomalies in archery (teer) counters in Garo Hills.
“We would like to appeal to the centre on the issue being faced by the people relating to demonetization. Adequate amounts of new Rs 500 notes need to be made available as the Rs 2000 is literally useless for villagers,” said Utzol during the meeting.
The party had earlier met the DC of WGH to discuss the huge number of illegal archery counters in the region.
“We will be meeting the DC once again on the matter seeking action as huge amount of revenue is being leaked. The matter needs to be taken seriously and we will be moving forward to it. Our research has shown almost 90% of archery counters are illegal,” he added.
The party further wished the people of the state a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
New members of the party were also inducted during the general meeting. A pre Christmas party was later celebrated by members at the same location.
