Prostitution racket in guest house owned by HDR’s wife

SHILLONG, Dec 17: A prostitution racket was busted by police on Saturday and interestingly, this racket was being run from a guest house owned by the wife of the incumbent State Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh.
According to police accounts, two people were arrested in connection with the crime which included an employee of the guest house who has been identified Usha Debarma (37) and his woman accomplice, Momoni Pardon (27).


What further complicates the case is the fact that the two had forced a minor into prostitution and luckily for the victim, she was able to flee from the clutches of the two pimps and was later rescued.
“We have arrested an employee of at the Guest House owned by the wife of Home Minister on trafficking charges,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem informed on Saturday.
The victim first came to Shillong when she was employed as a house maid. The woman befriended her and then forced the minor into prostitution, the SP said.
Till September this year, over 80 cases registered under Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and 34 cases of Kidnapping & Abduction of children (Section 363,364,364A, 366 IPC.
