Those were the days… virtual world takes over real

Posted in January 2012

Donboklang Majaw
Shillong, Jan 24:
There was a time when Playing meant going outside, getting dirty, exhausted and being scolded on arriving back at home. It was a common notion in those days that the main motive of playing is utterly useless when there was no one else to play with, that the street is a cricket pitch during road-Bandhs, that one goal is worth more than a couple of bruises, which can be hidden by a pair of long trousers once one reaches home.
What was more inspiring was the “it’s worth it” attitude of the children having to brave the inevitable dangers of breaking window panes, dirtying the neighbors’ whitewashed walls and of course expecting sound thrashings from their parents; and that too, everyday.
And those were the days.
