Abduction not the solution to problems: Council of Nokma

TURA, Jan 31:
The Council of Nokma in an emergent meeting condemned the abduction of the two MeECL Engineers, A Pohthmi and B.Majaw by GNLA, maintaining that the abduction is not the solution to resolve the alleged grievances of inadequacy of supply of electrical energy to the rural areas of Garo Hills.
Therefore, it urged upon the abductors to release the Engineers at the earliest to ease the tension among the major communities of Meghalaya, letting peace to prevail.

All join hands with HTWA in Peace March at Tura

About thousand people on Tuesday joined hand in the peace march organized by Hynniewtrep Welfare Association (HTWA), West Garo Hills, Tura with the support of all the other organizations demanding the safe and early release of the two abducted MeECL engineers, B Majaw and A Pohthmi.
United Christian Peace Forum (UCPF), Garo Hills Sentinel for Human Rights (GHSHR), mothers’ union, Central Puja Committee (CPC), MeECL employees, and students participated in this rally.

JAC opposes Marngars as Bhoi Tribe, office picketing on Feb 3

NONGPOH, Jan 31:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), a conglomerate of four NGO’s of Ri-Bhoi District including the KSU, FKJGP, CORP and HNYF, has decided to call one day office picketing on February 3.
The announcement comes after the State Government apparently refused to pay any heed to the demand by the JAC to revoke the order of the inclusion of the Marngar Community as the Bhoi Tribe.
While addressing to the media, JAC Chairman, Donkupar Sumer informed that the committee which had opposed the recent order of the State Government passed through the political Department had given a deadline to the state Government. But in view of lack of response from the government and failing to take any action, it has decided to call the one day office picketing.

MSMEs to help get funds faster from financial institutions

Meghalaya Chief Secretary W M S Pariat impressed upon the credit-rating officials to go all out in creating awareness of the benefits of getting their firms credit rated.
"Credit ratings gives reviews of basic economics of institutions where credit worthiness of such business enterprises is assessed," Pariat said while addressing an awareness programme on performance and credit rating and its benefits to MSMEs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
He said, "This is extremely good weapon and tool which can be utilized by enterprises which requires help from financial institution." "We need to motivate the people, to show them benefit accrue when they credit rated their enterprises," he added.

Meghalaya Girl bags three gold medals by securing 92.40%

SHILLONG, Jan 31:
Yvonne Angel Lyngdoh Mawphlang, an M.Sc. (Horticulture) (Vegetable Sciences), bagged three gold medals from the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka .
The student bagged the first gold medal for securing the topmost position in her stream by securing an aggregate of 92.40 percent.
She was also rewarded with the "Late Dr. Gangadhar. S. Kori of Bijapur Gold Medal for having secured the highest overall grade point average and first rank from among the Master of Science (Horticulture) graduates during the academic year 2010 - 11.
