Kidnapped bank official remains untraced in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 25: A top State Bank of India (SBI) official who was kidnapped by suspected rebels of the Rabha Vipers Army (RVA) earlier this week remained untraced Saturday, a police official said.
V.K. Gupta, the assistant general manager (inspection) of the bank, was abducted by four armed suspected RVA rebels from Chotamatia area in East Garo Hills district Thursday night (Feb 23).

Army Public School Shillong flaps cultural wings on Annual day

SHILLONG, Feb 25: Army Public School Shillong celebrated the Annual Day in Rhino Auditorium on Saturday.
Lt. General V.K Narula, SM, GOC 101 Area, Patron of APS Shillong, President of Regional AWWA, 101 Area, Nirmal Narula, were invited as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor respectively.
Principal of the School, C.O Koshy in his speech highlighted the achievements of the school in various fields, and reminded the parents about their role in nation building.
The hard work, sincerity and dedication of the students in AISSCE 2011 and AISSE 2011 was recognized and were awarded. The students who did well and those who were awarded Merit Certificates by the CBSE were also honored on the occasion.

GNLA triggers IED at Jisugittam village

Shillong, Feb 24:
Upping its efforts to unleash terror among innocent civilians, the Garo terrorist outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) exploded an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jisugittam village located between Siju and Jadi in South Garo Hills District.
The huge explosion took place on the side of a road while the police teams were on patrol in Nongalbibra area in Baghmara police station. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Responding to the incident, a police team rushed to the area and fired upon the perpetrators who left the scene in a hurry but no one could be apprehended.
Confirming the incident, police sources informed that the incident took place around 10:30 am adding that suspected GNLA cadres planted the device in between rocks on the side of the road.
From the objects recovered from the site of explosion, which include batteries, wires, iron pieces and pellets, police indicated that the device was country-made.

Two GNLA cadres surrender

Two cadres of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) on Thursday surrendered before the police in West Garo Hills.
The two cadres, identified as Dajing and Jiten R Marak, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) West Garo Hills, Ricky Dkhar, and also deposited a hand grenade.

HM writes to 10 CMs; says terror has to be dealt jointly

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI): Breaking his silence over stiff opposition to his pet project NCTC, Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday wrote to 10 non-Congress Chief Ministers, saying countering terrorism is a shared responsibility and Centre will continue to work with states to fight the menace.
In identical letters to the Chief Ministers, including West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee, Chidambaram said the Union Home Secretary would convene a meeting of the police chiefs of all states to discuss in detail the scope and functions of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, whose setting up was strongly opposed by them.
