Use Post office for filing RTIs: Meghalaya Governor

The Governor of Meghalaya, Ranjit Shekar Mooshahary, Monday urged upon the people to avail the services here of the Postal department for filing RTI’s instead of going to individual departments to receive queries to their questions on implementation of various government programme while, the service has been put for public benefit on responsive administration.
He said this while addressing the gathering at the inaugural ceremony of NEPEX 2012 on philately.

Conrad asks NGOs to screen members before induction

Leader of Opposition (LO) in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Conrad Sangma has demanded that various organizations, especially NGOs in State should screen its members before indicting them.
The LO on Sunday visited the houses and shops that were burnt in Rajabagan in Byrnihat, along the Meghalaya - Assam border on Saturday.
Stressing that the incident took place due to individual and personal reasons, he said there were no orders given from the organization as a whole.

‘Arunachal is integral part of India'

New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS): A day after China objected to Union Defence Minister AK Antony's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, India Sunday reiterated that the state is its integral part and stressed that any Indian has the right to visit any part of Indian territory.
Objecting to the Indian defence minister's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei Saturday had "asked India to work with China to maintain peace and stability in border areas".
Hong had asserted that China advocated seeking a fair and rational solution through equal and friendly negotiations, adding Bejing's stance on Sino-Indian border issues, including disputes regarding the eastern section, has been consistent and clear-cut.

Assam tea producers cry for survival

Guwahati, Feb 26 (PTI): Three Assam tea producers' Associations have submitted a memorandum to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce urging it to take immediate measures to ensure the survival of Assam's tea industry.
A joint forum of Assam Tea Planters' Association (ATPA), North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) and Bharatiya Cha Parishad (BCP) pointed out that the industry was passing through a period of stagnancy.
Stating these, NETA Chairman Bidyananda Barkakoty said here on Sunday that the average price of CTC tea in Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) from April 1, 2011 to January 31 2012 was lower by Rs 4.41 compared to that of the same period in 2010-11.

Two minors among 5 FICN racketeers apprehended

SHILLONG, Feb 26:
Acting on a tip – off, Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Feb 22 last, apprehended one Bangladeshi Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) racketeer in East Khasi Hills while he was illegally intruding inside India from Bangladesh at about 8 pm.
The apprehended racketeer was identified as Amir Ali (25) from Sunamganj district in Bangladesh.
FICN worth Rs 3,000 was also recovered from his possession.
