GNLA declared “terrorist organization”, police dept jovial

The State Government on Wednesday announced that Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has been declared an “terrorist organization” since January 12, 2012 via notification of Government of India.
The notification in The Gazette of India Extraordinary F. No:11011 /124/2011- NE-V  dt. January 12, 2012 reads that- under sub-section (1) of Section 35 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, GNLA and all its formations and front is added as a  (36)terrorist organization in the schedule to the said Act and for the said purpose”.
Elaborating on it, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said “our simple approach is to neutralize the outfit and achieve desired result and we have strategized accordingly”.

Meghalaya targets zero BPL families by next decade

Meghalaya Government aims to make Meghalaya Poor Free State in the next 10 years. The state Government aims that within the next one decade there will be no poor family in Meghalaya.
"We want to ensure that Meghalaya wants to achieve zero Below Poverty Line (BPL) family in 10 years," Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters on Wednesday after the cabinet meeting.
Sounding optimistic about getting additional funding based on its objectives from the Centre, Dr Sangma said, "To achieve this, a number of initiatives requiring huge funds from Planning Commission and Centre have been designed."
While Planning Commission approves the plan size of each state according to the available resources, Dr Sangma said, "The state government will go beyond the actual plan size to achieve the target."

Police arrests fraudster from City

SHILLONG, Feb 01:
In what is believed to be a major breakthrough in a fraud and cheating case involving lacks of rupees, one Marbatdor Kharbyngar, was arrested by the police on Wednesday from Laitumkhrah on charges of fraud and cheating.
The apprehended has three cases filed against him. The recent one being the fund misappropriation of Rs 38,500 at Smith Government Lower Primary School. Here, the case was filed by the BDO of the area himself.

Meghalaya readies conceptualizing programs for ‘Year of the Youth’

Having recently declared 2012 as the ‘Year of the Youth’, the state has planned an array of programs and initiatives that will make this effort a successful to the youth of the state.
Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma on Wednesday mentioned that a task force had been notified on November 8 last year to conceptualize the initiatives for the youth throughout year.
For the purpose of implementation of various programs as per the declaration of this year as the ‘Year of the Youth’, various departments which involve line departments of State government are required to structure various events as part of the celebrations.
