NONSGTOIN, Feb 28: The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup, Assam, R.K Choudhury sent Assam Police team led by the Circle inspector was apparently stopped by the Meghalaya police when the Assam police went to inquire the construction work at the existing Langpih market.
The Assam police are reported to have returned back to camp at Langpih Assam Police Outpost right after.
Shillong, Feb 28: The employees and workers of various sectors of Central Government, Banks, Insurances, CRU and Central PSU of Meghalaya observed one day General Strike along with the rest of the country on Tuesday.
All India trade union strike-paralyses services in the financial sector in the state of Meghalaya. Financial sector across the state of Meghalaya were severely affected following the nationwide strike called by trade unions to express their anger at soaring prices and to back demands for improved rights for employees, the strikers have a long list of demands.
Shillong, Feb 28: Government on Tuesday deferred the implementation of the Meghalaya Mineral Policy 2012.Â
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said the Policyâ€™s implementation has been deferred as it requires more time for studying.
Mentionably, Meghalaya Mining Policy was earlier rechristened as the Meghalaya Mineral Policy.
While statements were made that the policy will be implemented by early 2011, the policy is yet to be realized.
SHILLONG, Feb 28: Acting on a tip â€“ off, BSF troops seized a consignment of various miscellaneous items in East Khasi Hills while the items were being smuggled from Bangladesh to India on Tuesday at about 12.30 am.
The items included potato chips, plate and glasses amounting to about Rs 34,000.
In another incident, BSF apprehended one Indian Anti National Element near West Garo Hills while he was illegally intruding inside India from Bangladesh on Monday at about 6 pm.
The apprehended person has been identified as SujeetMarak (30), from AdangChandaboi, West Garo Hills.
SHILLONG, Feb 28: The Meghalaya Aqua Culture Mission will be launched on March 5. The Aqua Culture Mission is being launched under the Stateâ€™s flagship Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP).Â
In order to familiarize programme among villagers, each block will have a cell which will allow beneficiaries to register themselves as partners to give them number of options from the various mission programmes under the IBDLP.
â€œActive participation and cooperation of the people will highly be required in implementing the programmeâ€, the Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma asserted.
