Shillong, March 31: Two Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) racketeers along with FICN worth Rs. 8000 were on Friday last apprehended by BSF at Bholaganj while they were illegally intruding inside India from Bangladesh.
The apprehended racketeers have been identified as Debi Malakar (35) and Ravi Boro (25) both resident of Naya Basti Village, Bholaganj, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.
Sounding an alarm, BSF informed that the FICN seized is of a very high quality and is difficult to differentiate with the original currency.
Shillong, March 31: Security forces shot dead two highway robbers in an encounter in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, the police said Saturday.
On being informed that a group of dacoits were looting coal-laden trucks plying on the NH-62 at Tamsura village, the police reached the spot at about mid-night.
As they approached, the robbers fired indiscriminately following which the policemen retaliated, the sources said.
Two robbers were killed in the firing while other members of the gang fled.
Four country made weapons resembling AK 47 and SLRs, three empty cartridges, a khukri and a bag were found from near the slain robbers, the sources said.
Security along the NH 62 in the district has been intensified.
Shillong, March 30: Putting the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) into election mode, CWC member in charge for Meghalaya, Dhaniram Shandil said, â€œWe are all set and prepare for the (2013) election.â€
AICC emissaries, Shandil and Sanjay Bapna, Friday met state party leaders in Meghalaya outlining party strategies ahead of the 2013 polls, hoping to achieve same results as in Assam and Manipur Assembly elections recently.
Outlining number of programs that set the party in election mode, Shandil said the Congress-led coalition government has proposed to bring out a booklet highlighting the government's achievement by April last week.
