Ongoing Government – Tourists Taxis tussle a burden to Tourism

SHILLONG, March 28:
With summer approaching, tourists from plain belts are rushing towards hill stations to get a respite from the scorching heat.
Shillong is evidently becoming the most pursued hill destination, as far as North East is concerned, puling tourist all the way from West Bengal and Bihar and even Delhi.
However, transportation is the most vital aspect in the tourism circuit, needed to ferry tourists to Shillong and increase overall tourist inflow. And this vital aspect has again aired its grievances, threatening to crumble the whole tourism circuit in state.  
The Meghalaya Tourist Transporters’ Association (MTTA) Wednesday set a 10-day deadline to State government demanding for a permanent parking stand for the Sumo and Indica tourist taxis.

GNLA shopping photograph embarrass state police

SHILLONG, March 28:
The photographs of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadres openly shopping at Daranggiri market, Goalpara district, Assam has become a subject of big embarrassment to Meghalaya security forces.
Despite repeated claims from the Home Minister and police DGP, the photographs published Wednesday have clearly put the state police department at stake, while general public is a shock. They are shocked at the way militants are moving freely across the interstate border, lashed with arms and ammunitions, and even the locals from other state seem to have been cooperative.

NCP calls off Thursday bandh owing to HSLC exams

In view of ongoing HSLC examinations, NCP in an emergent meeting decided to call off the bandh scheduled for Thursday.
The party will be going ahead with a poster campaign giving ultimatum to the government to solve the water crisis in Tura.

Exchange of fire between GNLA – Security forces

Shillong, March 28:
Police have sounded an alert in Borsora area after heavy exchange of firing took place between security forces and the Garo hills National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants in remote coal-belt area of West Khasi Hills district Wednesday morning.
According to the police, during routine operation in the Nongjri – Borsora area security forces spotted about 10-15 GNLA cadres. The militants fired on the patrolling troops prompting the police force to retaliate, a senior police official said.

Pulse Polio Immunization Programme on April 2

Shillong, March 28: The office of the District medical and Health officer, East Khasi Hills District will conduct the National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme in the District with an aim to eradicate Poliomyelitis and to vaccinate all children under five years of age against polio virus.
The second round of the programme will be held on April 2 to be followed by house to house search and coverage activity on April 3 and 4.
