INVITATION FOR ADMISSION

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) will conduct the All India Entrance Examination for admission in PG Diploma Courses for the 2012-2013 sessions.
Apart from the centre’s already functioning in Delhi, Dhenkanal, Aizawl and Amravati, two new centres are being set up this year in Jammu and Kottayam, Kerala. Areas of training offered include English Journalism, radio and Television journalism, Hindi Journalism, Oriya Journalism and Advertising and Public Relations.
The Last date of submission of application form is April 20, 2012 and the Entrance test will be conducted on May 21 next at IIMC, Aizawl.
The forms for Masters in Mass Communication in The English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U) can be downloaded from the university website.
It may be mentioned that the English and Foreign Languages University (EFL-U) has a campus at Shillong offering a slew of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in English, Mass Communication and Foreign languages.

Dry Day Declared on April 6

Shillong, March 30: The Deputy commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills District has declared April 6, 2012 as Dry Day throughout the District on the account of Good Friday. All Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops /bars/hotels/clubs/out still shops and bonded warehouses shall remain close on the said date.

GNLA denies hand in Jay Pee employees kidnapping case

Shillong, March 30:
Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) Commander – in – Chief, Sohan D Shira, Friday denied involvement of his outfit in Thursday’s kidnapping attempt of the five employees of Jay Pee Power Ltd from the 450 MW Kynshi (Stage II) hydro power project site.
Denying the involvement of the outfit, Sohan said, “The GNLA is not active in West Khasi Hills.”

Tourism plays vital role in Capacity building: Mukul

SHILLONG, March 30: Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma Friday inaugurated the Polo Orchid Resort at Mawsmai, Cherrapunjee.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sangma said that the opening of Polo Orchid Resort at Mawsmai is an achievement which will boost the tourism industry in the State and also promote Cherrapunje as the number one tourist destination in the State.
It may be mentioned that the land for the resort was donated by the Mawsmai-Nongthymmai Elaka to the State Tourism Department and the Polo Group was entrusted to operate and make the resort functional.

Village official abducted

Shillong, March 30: Heavily armed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants abducted a village employment council secretary in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, police said Friday.
The village employment council official, Animul Haque, was abducted Thursday afternoon while he was coming from the Selsela block office, they said.
According to the police, Haque was forced into a waiting vehicle outside the block office.
