Shillong, March 31:
For his active contribution to the game of football in the State, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma was on Saturday felicitated by Meghalaya Football Association (MFA).
Lauding the CM’s “interest and active support in the promotion of sports in the State by virtue of physical evidences at the ground”, MFA secretary Larsing Sawyan explained that the gesture was a token of appreciation from MFA to the CM for his benevolence and far sightedness.

On his part, the CM said it was but the government’s duty to ensure that young people “actively participate in sports” while acknowledging the “immense talent available in the State.”
Pointing out to the newly laid astro-turf in the JN Stadium on which the game was being played, he Sangma assured that the synthetic track would soon be completed and that “floodlights too would be soon installed so that day-night games can be played in the Stadium.”

While highlighting the proposed artificial turf grounds at Tura and Jowai, he clandestinely hinted at the possibility of Shillong having more astro – turf pitches by saying “Who knows maybe a few more would come up in Shillong”.
