1 dead, 5 injured in separate Road Accidents

SHILLONG, Apr 30:
A loaded truck (AS11AC – 5687) on its way to Guwahati overturned on a turning at Shang Bangla, Ri Bhoi District on Monday, at 1:00 am. The 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based at Nongpoh helped in shifting the spare driver Zakir Hussain (40) and helper Illal Ahmed (20) to Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
In another incident , Bringshailin Mawlong ,a motorist sustained injuries after he fell off from his motorbike (MLO5E – 9621) when he hit a stone at Sohiong Parmaw under Mawphlang Block, East Khasi Hills on Sunday at 3:11 pm. The 108 Emergency Ambulance based at Mawphlang helped in shifting Bringshailin Mawlong to Woodland Hospital, Shillong.

Pvt Co’s asked to obtain NOC from competent authority

Jowai, Apr 30: The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills through a press note has informed that Private Non- banking Financial Company/Companies seeking No Objection Certificate (NOC) are to obtain a statement in writing from the competent authority, stating to the effect that the nature of the operations/Transaction of their business falls within the purview and regulations.
No Private Non-banking Financial Companies shall operate any business activity within the District without authorized permission/ clearance from the competent authority.
The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills, has issued this Order, in the interest of the Public and urgency.

5556 Buddha Jayanti festival this Sunday

The Barua Buddhist community of Shillong, like every year, will be celebrating 5556 Buddha Jayanti festival on May 6 with a daylong function.
Milk and bread will also be distributed among various old age homes and orphanage on the May 5

Don’t give ‘communal color’ to all unpleasant cases against NE students: Conrad

Leader of Opposition (LO), Conrad K Sangma (NCP) Monday expressed profound grief over the demise of Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma’s niece Dana M Sangma, and asserted that discrimination against students from the North East has been happening in every big city in India but advised against giving ‘communal color’ to all such cases.

Prince Andrew to visit Kohima Today

Kohima, Apr 30 (PTI): As part of his week-long visit to India, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, will arrive here Tuesday on a day-long visit to commemorate Queen’s diamond jubilee celebration, official sources said here Monday.
As per programme’s scheduled for the visit of the Duke, after his arrival the Prince will visit Kohima World War-II cemetery and place a wreath in memory of those who fell in the gruesome battle of 1944, the sources said.
