HNLC oppose flag march in city

Expressing strong opposition to the flag march by Police and BSF Wednesday, Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) termed the act as ‘a Military Arm’s Propaganda’ to show power and frighten people.
In a press communiqué issued by HNLC Publicity secretary, Sainkupar Nongkhlaw, here on Thursday, the outfit asked “when our own people were being thumbed in Langpih and in Block 1 and 2, where this Para military was?”

Police narrowly escape IED explosion by GNLA

SHILLONG, Apr 26:
Security Forces deployed in South Garo Hills district had a narrow escape on Thursday as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed by Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) at Chokpot area missed its target by a whisker.
Sources from the police said that the explosion took place when a team from the 2nd Battalion was returning from Chokpot area escorting another team that had gone for Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) training.

GNLA calls 144 hour bandh in Garo Hills from Monday

SHILLONG, Apr 26:
The 72 – hours bandh called by Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in the Ampati and Selsella, the constituencies of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and Leader of Opposition (LO) Conrad K Sangma respectively, has terrified all sections of people in Garo hills.
The bandh was called by the outfit demanding from the state government to stop counter insurgency operations against them, which started on Wednesday.

Denizens denounce flag march in Shillong city

SHILLONG, Apr 26:
An uneasy calm prevailed in the city following the flag rally conducted by the paramilitary on Wednesday last which prompted some of the concern citizens of the city to protest against the actions taken by the District Administration.
“The situation now does not demand such kind of ‘warrant’ instead it has created a lot of ‘fear psychosis’ among the people residing in the area,” Secretary of Umsohsun Dorbar, Allan Dkhar told media persons at a news conference here on Thursday.

Dana Sangma’s body cremated

SHILLONG, Apr 26:
The body of 21 year old Dana Silva M Sangma, an MBA student from Amity University also the niece of Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, was cremated on Thursday at her home town Tura, in West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya.
Dana had committed suicide on Tuesday last by hanging herself in her room after being accused of cheating in her examination.
