Meghalaya Police constable with GNLA link nabbed

SHILLONG, Apr 27:
In a surprising catch, East Khasi Hills (EKH) police Friday arrested an Unarmed Branch Constable (UBC) for aiding the Garo National Liberation Army. 
The UBC identified as Alex Grahambel Marak, posted at Bholaganj, was arrested by EKH SWAT team.
Acting on a tip off, SWAT team raided raided Marak’s quarter at Bholaganj near the Indo-Bangladesh border and recovered 10 GNLA demand notes, 3 mobile phones, 4 simcards, 2 pen drives, and some incriminating documents from his possession.
“We have been investigating into the matter for quite sometime on the allegation that this constable has linked with the outfit”, a senior police official said.
Mentionably, state police had for quite some time been probing the police department’s nexus with the GNLA.

MNUCC members resign en – masse

In a major blow to Mawlai legislator Founder S Cajee, the members of the Mawlai Nongpdeng Unit Congress Committee (MNUCC) have resigned from the party en-masse citing various differences over the functioning of their Mawlai MLA.
In a press statement issued here on Friday, the Committee members informed that the decision was taken on April 24 last in its meeting.
The committee members have cited three reasons for resigning en-masse from the Congress.

GNLA aide arrested from Guwahati

Shillong, Apr 27 (PTI):
In a joint operation, Meghalaya and Assam police arrested a youth from Guwahati for allegedly aiding the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in printing demand notes for the outfit, police sources said on Friday.
The youth identified as one Md Sajjid Khan of Hatigaon was arrested and a computer and printer were seized from his possession, West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police R Muthu informed.

Girls outsmart boys again but pass percentage drops in HSSLC (Sc & Comm)

The results of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) for Science and Commerce streams 2011 – 12 are out and the girls have again outwitted the boys this year too but the overall pass percentage has dropped, which is a worrying factor. 
In the science stream, the pass percent this year stands at 66.15 percent, wherein the pass percentage of regular candidates is 67.68 and for the non-regular students is 45.24 percent.
Girls registered pass percentage of 71.63 percent among regular candidates and 50 percent in non – regular candidates, whereas the boys registered 64.05 percent and 41.67 percent pass percentage in regular and non – regular category respectively.

RKM to open 10 new State Youth Counseling Centers across India

SHILLONG, Apr 26:
The Rama Krishna Mission (RKM), founded by Swami Vivekananda, is planning to open ten new State Youth Counseling Centers all over the country; this was revealed on Friday while commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of renowned social reformer Swami Vivekananda, here at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong.
The aim behind opening these centers is to assist the youths to do better in life as youths will carry the culture and tradition of any country, said Swami Maharaj, Vishwatmanandaji while addressing the gathering.
