2 UALA cadres slain in encounter

TURA, Dec 18: An encounter early Thursday morning between militants of United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) and the Army from Damra in Goalpara district of Assam led to the death of 2 cadres.
The army personnel also recovered arms and ammunition from the spot. The encounter took place in the village of Thanti Pick Hills, under the Krishnai PS in Goalpara district.


According to sources, the exchange of fire between the army and the UALA cadres happened at about 4 am Thursday morning as the militants were crossing over from Meghalaya into Assam near the village of Khaldang, about 6 kms from the town of Resubelpara.
Sources said that about 5 to 6 armed cadres were crossing over and were intercepted by the army personnel after which an exchange of fire ensued, culmination in the loss of the two lives.
While the identity of the two killed cadres is yet to be ascertained, recoveries indicate the cadres to be a part of the UALA.
The police and the army recovered 2 pistols, 2 detonators, 4 grenades, gelatine sticks, bullets among other items from the place of incidence.
