TURA, Dec 07: The offensive against militancy in Garo Hills continued on Sunday with a camp of the Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) busted in a joint operation between the Army and the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) personnel of East Garo Hills (EGH). The offensive took place at the village of Papara Abri near Rongmil in EGH at about 7:30 am on Sunday morning.
“We conducted operations after receiving inputs of their presence. Unfortunately they were located on a hilltop and saw our forces approaching and fired at us. They retreated after firing while our forces retaliated. They ran towards North Garo Hills (NGH) and the police was informed of their movement and operations are currently on. There were about 20 cadres in the camp,” said the Superintendent of Police (SP) of EGH, Davies Marak.

Rongmil falls close to the border between EGH and NGH.
The police personnel recovered 2 pistols, incriminating documents of AMEF, ASAK and GNLA, radio sets, explosive materials, SIM cards along with other camp materials and a case has been registered in the Rongjeng Police Station.
Meanwhile, the EGH police have confirmed the hand of GNLA cadres in the attack on the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ringrang G Momin’s house.
“There were three cadres, Kharok, Lohan and another unidentified cadre belonging to the main Sohan D Shira’s camp,” said Marak.
In some heartening news for the people of Williamnagar, the SP stated that seemingly the other IED which was being sought out has taken back by the cadres, bringing to an end the apprehensions of an impending blast in the town on the civilian population.
