Programme on Contact Management and Quality Control Aspects Inaugurated

Shillong, May 31: Meghalaya Minister for PWD, HDR Lyngdoh inaugurated the three day Customized Training Programme on Contract Management and Quality Control Aspects for the contractors and young engineers of Public Works Departments (PWD), Government of Meghalaya which got underway here on Thursday at Shillong Club, Shillong.
Principal Secretary, PWD, NS Samant was the Chairperson on the occasion.
Organized by the PWD the three day programme is being conducted by the experts from the Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi.
Lyngdoh at his inaugural speech said that road and communication play a vital role for development, upon which all sectors are dependent. Thus the thrust, both at the State and Central level is development of transport infrastructure beginning with the process of construction of roads and bridges of which the construction industry is the main player.
He also added that the construction industry is an important and necessary contributor to the growth of the Economy. Fast growth of the construction industry is essential and the active role of the local construction industry and contractors is vital to achieve high economic growth and development.
Lyngdoh said that the competent contractors who observe business ethics and care for the quality of work, the better environment, the safety of workers and the public at large, serve the industry in a better manner.
Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Secretary, WMS Pariat, said that the training is especially design to meet the requirements of the State which experience difficulty in road construction in hilly terrain, soil condition, heavy rainfall and less working season. He called upon the participants to actively participate in all the sessions which will enhance their skill and knowledge to undertake the work effectively in the field of road construction and other development activities.
Others present on the occasion include Secretary, PWD, SB Chyrmang, Chief Engineer, PWD (Standard), MM Sun, Chief Engineer, PWD (R), M Tariang, Chief Engineer, PWD (B), K Passah, Additional Chief Engineer, PWD (R), S Pyngrope, ILT, CRRI, TK Amla, Head, PED, CRRI, K Sitaramanjaneyu, local contractors and Engineers of the PWD.
