KHADC refers Succession Bill to Select Committee

SHILLONG, June 26:
Following protest registered by majority of the members, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Tuesday decided to refer the KHAD (Appointment and succession of Syiem, Deputy Syiem, Electors, and Rangbah Shnong of Mylliem Syiemship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2012 to the Select Committee for further examination.
During the debate on the subject held at the last day of the budget session here on Tuesday, many members of the Council expressed their disappointment on the way the Executive Committee of the KHADC has in a hasty way introduced the bill without taking the consent of the members and the traditional heads of the Hima into consideration.

Dendrite to be banned in West Garo Hills: DC

Sale of dendrite in West Garo Hills district to be completely banned, exhorted the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district while addressing a gathering at the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ at Tura Circuit house organized by the  District Social Welfare Officer in collaboration with CDPO, Urban ICDS Project on Tuesday.

Student Body demand creating additional medical seats to meet NEIGRIHMS quota

SHILLONG, June 26:
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) - Central Body Tuesday called upon the state Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, D P Wahlang, to discuss on the issue with regards to the allocation of Central Pool MBBS/BDS Seats.
After the meeting, KSU President, Daniel Khyriem said that reservation of the two seats for non-indigenous people will affect the deserving students of the State who wish to study MBBS in NEIGRIHMS.

MMSA oppose state medical seat quota to NEIGRIHMS employee

In a letter addressed to the State Commissioner and Secretary Health and Family Welfare department by the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) on Tuesday said that why North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) an institute of excellence where MBBS courses are also imparted MBBS seats to be given from the state quota.

People's Movement to observe July 2 – 3 as black Flag Day

Shillong, June 26:
People's Movement led by UDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit held its meeting on Tuesday at an undisclosed location.
In the meeting, the movement decided to ask students of all colleges to observe black flag day on July 2 – 3 as a mark of protest on the ongoing boundary dispute with Assam.
It was also decided that on July 3, leaders of the movement along with Ardent will visit Langpih to meet the youth who is holding ‘fast unto death’ until the boundary issue is resolved.
