SPC meets KHADC Chairman, CEM on Laban MDC’s aggressive attitude

SHILLONG, June 27:
A delegation of the Shillong Press Club (SPC) Wednesday met the Chairman and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and expressed concern over the attitude of Laban MDC Sanbor Shullai who have picked on the media persons during the last day of the budget session of the council which concluded on Tuesday.
The SPC also submitted a letter to the Council’s Chairman Fabian Lyngdoh and CEM PN Syiem demanding the council to expunge the proceedings in which the MDC had castigated the media persons.

List of UB SI candidates approved

SHILLONG, June 27:
The Home (Police) Department on Wednesday approved the list of candidates appointed for the post of UB Sub Inspectors (SI) 2012.
The appointment will be issued by the Districts/Units concerned in due course and the candidates are requested to wait for the appointment orders.
Sources informed that 170 names have been approved for the post of UB Sub Inspectors.
The list of the successful candidates approved has been pasted at the Notice Boards of SPs and Commandants office and desired candidates can also visit the Meghalaya Police official website.

Landslide leaves hundreds of vehicles stranded in Jaintia Hills

SHILLONG, June 27:
The life-line of Jaintia Hills – NH-44 – which not only connects the districts but also shares inter-state boundary with Tripura, Mizoram and Assam was taken for a toss after vehicles along the National Highway-44 were stranded for hours after torrential rain grimed all road communication.
Torrential rain followed by landslides in at least eight places of Jaintia Hills district left hundreds of vehicles on the road, officials on Wednesday said.

Presidential poll: Pranab, Sangma to file papers Thursday

New Delhi, June 27 (IANS): UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee will file his nomination for the July 19 presidential poll Thursday morning, said official sources Wednesday.
Opposition candidate P.A. Sangma, who is supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party, the AIADMK and the Biju Janata Dal, will also file his nomination in the afternoon the same day, said the sources.
The filing of nominations would mark the formal start of the race for presidency, in which Mukherjee appears to have a clear edge over Sangma.

Training of Booth Level Officers in EKH

Shillong, June 27: The additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), East Khasi Hills District (EKH), Shillong has informed that the training of all the Booth Level Officers (BLOs)for Special Summary Revision with reference to January 01, 2013 as qualifying date in East Khasi Hills District (except Sohra © Sub-Division) has been conducted on Wednesday at 10:30 am in 14- Pynthorumkhrah (GEN) and 25- Mawsynram (ST) and at 12:00 noon in 15 Mawlai (ST) and 19-South Shillong (GEN) and at 3:00 pm in 27-Pynursla (ST) and 16 East Shillong (ST).
