SHILLONG, June 30:
Dismissing the claim made by presidential aspirant PA Sangma, Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H Pala Saturday said that Tribal Forum has never put up him (Sangma) as a candidate as claimed by the former Lok Sabha Speaker.
“I am a tribal and also a Christian and an executive member of the Tribal Forum. I do not remember of having any discussion of him on this issue,” Pala said while speaking to reporters on the issue at the sideline of the function held at Umpling here on Saturday.
Pala said, “I do not know what tribal forum he (Sangma) is talking about…”
According to the Minister, the election to the post should be on party line.
He said, “Out of 543 members, Congress has more than 200” adding “division is also there amongst the NDA and its allies”.
Meanwhile, the UDP and the HSPDP, allies of the ruling Congress have pledged their support in principle to P A Sangma.
The Arunachal Congress, AGP (Assam) and the MNF (Manipur) in the region have so far come out in support of Sangma.
Sangma kick starts his campaign from his home constituency, Tura, in West Garo Hills and prayer meetings have been scheduled all over the state by the state unit of the NCP and his supporters.
