ASAK suffers another blow as five more cadres nabbed

TURA, July 17: In another major blow to the A’chik Songna Anchakpagipa Kotok (ASAK) outfit, North Garo Hills police apprehended 5 cadres of the outfit from the district on Thursday morning. The five were on their way to the border of Assam to buy arms and ammunition for the outfit. They were apprehended from Soksan, about 3 kms from Mendhipathar, and about a 100 kms from the town of Tura.
“We apprehended them at about 1:20 am in the morning today (Thursday), when they were travelling in a Maruti car to go to the Assam border to buy guns. They had Rs 1 lakh 40 thousand with them in hand. Our team apprehended the five based on very specific information of their movements”, said SP, North Garo Hills, Jerry Marak.

He further said that the 5 confessed to being a part of the outfit, even as ID cards of the outfit were found on them.
“During interrogation they said they were on their way to buy ammunition for AKs and 9mm pistols. We however, missed the carriers who they were going to as they had fled before we could apprehend them.”
The arrested cadres are - Doma Momin (26) alias John, Rakesh Marak (27) alias Laket, Salbong M Sangma (30), Thailand Marak (34) alias Thaiol, and Onimesh Sangma (40). The police team found Ids, incriminating documents as well as money from the five of them.
The latest blow for the ASAK team comes in the wake of the arrest of 9 members in one day by the East Garo Hills police team last week. The arrest had included two Area Commanders of the outfit.
