The Teaching Fraternity of Williamnagar town and its surrounding area of East Garo Hills district organized a ‘Protest Rally’ on Thursday last at Rongrenggiri Government Higher Secondary School, Williamnagar against the killing of Late Dannybith G Momin, Assistant  Science and Maths Teacher of  Resubelpara Government Higher Secondary School and other teacher in East Garo Hills.

BSF seize 5kg hemp, cattle at international border

SHILLONG, July 28:
Reacting on specific inputs on Friday night, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed at Karaigora, West Khasi Hills district seized 5 kg of hemp while it was being smuggled out to Bangladesh from India.
According to BSF official, the force is trying to keep a strict vigil and trying to keep a check on any smuggling of psychotropic substances/ narcotics/alcohol to Bangladesh and in this task BSF is also seeking the help of BGB.

Miscreants loot Rs 20,000 from commuter

SHILLONG, July 28:
Unknown miscreants looted Rs 20,000 and one cell phone from one Krishna Chettri, who was coming to Shillong from Ladrymbai recently.
According to police, Chettri was travelling from Ladrymbai to Shillong in a Maruti car (number not known), the driver along with his accomplice instead drove the car towards Mukroh, Jaintia Hills district and looted Rs. 20,000 and one cell-phone from him.
Police are investigating into the matter.

Police nabs KCP militant

IMPHAL, July 28: A militant belonging to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Noyon faction has been nabbed by Thoubal district police commandos.
The arrested KCP militant is identified as Md Salatur Rahman, 28, son of Md Ajijur Rahman of Lilong Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district. He was arrested by the commando team during a search operation carried out at Pallel Bazaar around 2:55 p.m. on Friday.

2 persons killed in separate road accident

SHILLONG, July 28:
Two persons died on spot in two different accidents on Saturday morning.
One Dhar Nongseij occupant of a local taxi died on the spot and other was seriously injured when the local taxi bearing registration number ML 05 E 1202, they were travelling ramped into a stationed truck at 4 ½ mile, Upper Shillong at wee hours on Saturday.
