Mahadev fervor runs high among Hindu faithful

SHILLONG, July 29:
Chanting ‘Bole Bam’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev ‘thousands of Hindu faiths on Sunday paid pilgrimage to the city’s ancient temple ‘Maha Dev Khola’ and marched towards Mawsynram, where the Hindu faithful believe to have a ‘big shiv linga ‘ formed of the water drops from the ceiling of the cave.
Thousands of Hindu faithful on Sunday marched the 64 km walk from Shillong to Mawsynram, dressed in saffron most of them said, “Lord Shiva is the most powerful of all the deities. He is the samharak (ultimate destroyer) of srishti (creation) and he fulfils everyone's wishes.”

Shillong, July 29: Brenda Latsaheb, the daughter of Dr.Potsangbam Latsaheb Singh (who is an Orthopaedic surgeon and Commandant medical, SSB) and Sharmila Latsaheb of Heirangoithong Bazar, Imphal  has topped in the Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) MBBS entrance exam held on July 22 last.

Unabsorbed 18 LDA candidates pin last hopes on Govt

SHILLONG, July 29:
With the candidature of the 18 candidates who had successfully cleared MPSC examination in 2008 for appointment as Lower Division Assistant (LDA) on the verge of being lapse, their hopes now rest entirely on government.
Observing this, a senior lawyer of the Shillong Bar Association says that it is a policy matter and the verdict clearly mentions that the state could deviate in exceptional and emergent situation taking a policy decision adding “it also states exception cannot be rules, implying from now on the Commission cannot select more candidates than what is advertised for by the Government departments”.

5.8 magnitude quake jolts NE

SHILLONG, July 29:
An earthquake measuring 5.8 in Richter scale hit most parts of the North Eastern states in the morning hours on Sunday.
According to Shillong Seismological centre officials, the earthquake struck at around 7:58 am with its epicenter at Myanmar and Nagaland border.
However, officials confirmed that there was no damage of property or any casualty in any of the states.

Anomalies in expenditure of Mizoram’s SSA fund: CAG

Aizawl, July 29: Quite a number of anomalies and discrepancies had been found in the administration of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) mission in Mizoram, Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report stated, the copy of which was submitted to state Finance minister, H Liansailova at the ongoing Assembly.
Besides, the CAG report stated that there are still thousands of children, who do not go to school even after the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) mission in Mizoram for several years already.
