Shillong, Aug 28: ANVC(B)â€™s anti â€“ corruption wingÂ has declared Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) bandh from August 30.
â€œPK Sangma says he is innocent and not corrupted, then maybe all other employees in the council are corrupted that is why some have been suspended and others made to pay back to the council,â€ the outfit stated.
It claimed that Garo Hills is witnessing 'Anda Kanoon' in reality.
SHILLONG, Aug 28: Irked at the indifference of the state government towards their demand, members of the Khasi Studentsâ€™ Union (KSU) and the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Tuesday forced the Chief Engineer of the State Sports Council R Kharmalki to leave his office chamber even as they sealed the office, as a move to protest against the governmentâ€™s decision to extend his service for two-years.
R Kharmalki is a retired Chief Engineer of the Sports Council. However, the MUA government has decided to extend his services for another two years. Registering strong opposition, the two NGOs have been demanding for immediate cancellation of the extension order which the government have failed to do so.
SHILLONG, Aug 28: Reacting on specific inputs, a joint operation was conducted by the BSF troops and the Meghalaya police at West Garo Hills district on Tuesday morning and apprehended one hardcore Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadre.
According to BSF officials the incident happened at around 9:45 am, when after receiving specific inputs a joint operation was conducted at Berangapara market, West Garo Hills district.

Keeping this in mind, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Biodiversity Board PBO Warjri Tuesday launched a project, â€˜Survey of Biodiversity in Meghalaya and its potentialâ€™ aimed at carrying out a survey of biodiversity of Meghalaya and its potentials.
Speaking on the occasion, he stressed on the importance of biodiversity and its conservation. He said that the stateâ€™s biodiversity is under threat and if not checked many species will become extinct in 20 years time.
