Drunken female rider detained

In yet another case of drunken riding, one female rider (name withheld) was Wednesday detained for riding under the influence of alcohol and ramming into another vehicle bearing registration number ML 05J 7206 at Jyllishop about 7.50 pm.
The female rider is aged about 32 years of age and along with her on the scooty, bearing registration number ML 05F 7096, was a pillion rider.
Police sources informed that as per the medical repot the female scooty rider was drunk and unable to control the speed of the speed resulting in the accident. She has been detained and a case against her for drunken riding will be taken up.

Youths called to initiate efforts in nation building

Calling on the youths to initiate efforts in nation building, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma Wednesday said “it is only pertinent for all of us to reach out to people to get them connected with our ‘political system’ in strengthening the ‘democratic system’”.
He was addressing at the inauguration of the office of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) in the city attended by more than 500 youth Congress members here on Wednesday.
“We have to be able to reach out to all people and connect them to the political system, if we love democracy and if want to ensure sustainability of the democracy of this country”, Dr Sangma said.

Jail Road Bazaar is now “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Square”

SHILLONG, Aug 01:
The Jail Road Bazaar has been rechristened as “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Square”.
Informed this here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said the proposal for renaming of Jail Road Bazaar, Shillong was brought by the GAD department after receiving the proposal from the Jail Road Welfare Committee.
Besides this, the Cabinet also approved filing up of vacant posts in the Pine Mount School. “The posts which have been proposed after taking relevant interview by the department has been brought to the cabinet for its consideration and cabinet has approved”, the CM said.
The Cabinet has also approved the filling up of the vacant posts of the computer teacher in Shillong, Jowai and Tura Government Public Schools.
