NEHU to resume class from Sept 3

Shillong, Aug 30:
NEHU authorities have informed that regular power supply to the University has been restored August 26 with the assistance of the Meghalaya Energy Co-operation Limited.
“Accordingly, the University announces the resumption of all Classes with effect from September 3 as stated earlier vide Circular No.F.28-6/Acad/AC/2002-385, dated 24th August, 2012,” a press statement from Registrar of NEHU said.
All Hostellers of NEHU who have left for home have been asked to return to their hostels accordingly.

ANVC(B) draws the line in fight against corruption

Alleging that Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is protecting GHADC CEM Purno K. Sangma, ANVC(B) Thursday termed the act by CM as “Another act of discrimination and injustice towards the people of Garo Hills.”
The outfit claimed that Purno K. Sangma met the CM late evening on Wednesday along with other MDCs, wherein Dr Sangma asked GHADC CEM not to resign and assured all protection.

Meghalaya Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011

SHILLONG, Aug 30: The political department, Government of Meghalaya in a notification issued recently has notified a scheme known as ‘Meghalaya Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011’ for providing funds for the purpose of compensation to victims or their dependents who have suffered any loss or injury as a result of crime and who require rehabilitation.
Rs 50,000 is the maximum limit of compensation on rape and Rs 25,000 for loss or injury causing severe mental agony to women and child victims in cases such as human trafficking, kidnapping etc.
The fun shall be operated by the Member Secretary, Meghalaya State Legal Service Authority.

More SSTS buses launched for public

Shillong, Aug 30:
State Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday released another 20 buses under the Shillong Special Transport Services (SSTS) to add to the existing fleet of public transport services in Shillong at a function held at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
Speaking at the ceremony as the Chief Guest, Lyngdoh said that the buses will cater the needs of the citizens.

Final of 1st Goodwill tournament on Sept 8

The final match of the 1st Goodwill invitational football tournament-2012 organized by the Metallica Sargam Sports and Cultural Club in support with Pynthorumkhra Youth Congress will be held on September 8 at Polo ground, Shillong from 11 am onwards.
