Posted in September 2012

Staff Reporter
SHILLONG, Sept 26:
The United Democratic Party (UDP) Wednesday said that the lack of firmness displayed by the government in dealing with detained GNLA Chief Champion R Sangma “reconfirms” the views of militant group – Congress nexus even as it observed the arrest as “stage managed”.
“The treatment given to him (champion) is not commensurate with the degree of his criminal involvement…which only confirms the complicity of some leaders in the congress party nexus with militancy,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh told reporters after the central executive meeting held here.
He added, “This can be demonstrated also by the non application of state laws like the MPDA which has been applied time and again even in the case of NGOs leaders and petty criminals.”

SHILLONG, Sept 26:
Concerned over the unabated influx, the United Democratic Party (UDP) Wednesday decided to ask the state government to come up with stronger and more effective mechanisms to check influx in the state even as it demanded that the proposed “railway-line” project be re-surveyed.
“The party strongly opposes the proposed introduction of railway line to Shillong which will not only bring or cause more influx but will destroy the fragile ecology in and around the city and village through which the project is proposed to pass,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh told reporters after the meeting of the central executive council (CEC) held here on Wednesday.
