Nongstoin, Sept 28: The Western people Movement (WPM) Central Body on Friday served a one month deadline to the Government through the PWD Department for improvement of the bad road condition within Nongstoin Town Area.
The Central Body Organizing Secretary H Marwein told, the bad road condition in Nongstoin Town Area has greatly affected the people of the area as almost every where the condition of road is much terrible.
We demand the PWD Department to speed up repairing of the road from to Civil Hospital, Nongstoin to Kynroh, Nongstoin to Rambrai and especially the road from Nongstoin to Nongpyndeng which is really worst even if the said village is also known as the gate way to education but when looking to the road it is very shameful to see, he said.
Shillong, Sept 28: Situation in Plain Belt area of West Garo Hills remains grim as fresh flood has created havoc.
The SDO (Civil) has been instructed to conduct preliminary assessment by visiting the flood affected areas on Friday while the district administration is also expected to stock of the situation by visiting the areas separately.Â
However, the damage by the fresh floods could not be ascertained.
Shillong, Sept 28: Special Judge, Shillong, B Giri by a judgment dated September 20 and order dated September 25 convicted accused Jaharlal Das, the then Senior Accountant, office of the Accountant General (A&E), Shillong and Dhiresh Kumar Chakraborty (Pvt person), the then Director/Chairman of M/s Tricon Wood Products (P) Ltd., Thana Road, Shillong.
This refers to CBI case No. RC19A92SHG which was registered on June 30, 1992 and charge was filed on April 28, 1994 U/s 120B, 420, 468, 471 IPC & Sec. 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act 1988.
The case relates to alleged undue favour shown to the Directors of M/s Tricon Wood Products Ltd., Thana Road, Shillong by the accused Bank Officers of Punjab and National Bank in sanctioning of loans and advances on the basis of false/forged documents and in violation of the laid down banking norms/procedures and subsequent misappropriation of the loans/advances amount to the extent of Rs.30.90 lakhs.
Shillong, Sept 27 (PTI): Notwithstanding the tribalsâ€™ opposition to mining of uranium in Meghalaya, Governor R S Mooshahary Thursday advocated mining of the highly radio-active mineral as the state would benefit in terms of power and employment generation.
â€œUranium is the most environment friendly and the state stands to benefit from uranium mining as the state will get subsidies on the power generated from uraniumâ€, the governor said.
SHILLONG, Sept 27: In view of the water bodies being threatened by human activities, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Thursday said that the Councilâ€™s Forest Act would be amended inserting a new provision in section 7 to impose strict prohibition of â€œfelling of tressâ€ along the â€œcatchment areasâ€ within its jurisdiction.
With the implementation of the new provision, all traditional institutions will be directed to take responsibility to ensure there is no further exploitation of the catchment areas and take stern actions against violators even if it is on privately owned lands.
