SHILLONG, Sept 30:
Prominent NGOs of the state have condemned the ‘High Level Committee (HLC) on Influx’ led by Deputy Chief Minister, BM Lanong, slamming the government for its failure to invite NGOs in its first meeting held recently.
FKJGP, President Joe Marwein informed that none of the NGOs were given any information about the meeting of the committee.
“The move by the government clearly shows that the government is not serious to address the issue on Influx,” Marwein said adding “The committee is only being formed just to fool the NGOs and kill time.”
He also said that earlier they (NGOs) had agreed and decided that this is the last time that they are going to be part of any committee formed by the government. Earlier recommendations made by the NGOs in the different committees were never even taken into consideration by the government, he added.
“We will sit and decide on the issue whether we should stop or go ahead being part of the committee,” FKJGP president asserted.
Meanwhile, the NGOs also demanded the government to allow one representative from all the NGOs to be members in the committee on Influx.
Mentionably, the Committee constituted by the government aims at reviewing the situation of “Influx” in the state and suggest a “multi-pronged” strategy and approach to deal with the issue.
