ASP killed in encounter, 7 explosives recovered

GUWAHATI, Jan 28: At least two people including a top police official were killed and five others injured in gun fight with anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) at a remote area in Sonitpur district along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at the remote Langladangi area near Batashipur in Sonitpur district along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.


“Based on intelligence reports, a troops led by Sonitpur district Additional SP Gulzar Hussain had launched an operation against NDFB militants at the remote area, where 10-15 militants of the outfit group were hiding. When troops reached the remote area, militants opened fired, targeting the security personnel which resulted in a heavy exchange of bullets,” a top police official said.
During the gun fight, six security personnel were critically injured, but Additional SP of Sonitpur district, Gulzar Hussain, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Other injured security personnel were rushed to Tezpur civil hospital.
The injured security personnel have been identified as Umakanta Bailung, Pinku Nath, Dhiraj Bharali, Rubul Bora and Janak Basumutary.
Security forces recovered body of a youth with bullet injuries, who was identified as L Nag, near the encounter place.
Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched an operation against militants.
On other hand, IK Sangbijit led NDFB claimed that at least four army personnel were killed in their attack on security forces on Tuesday morning.
In a telephonic conversation with local media of Assam, the spokesperson of the outfit group BR Ferenga said that they will continue their strike targeting security forces in the state.
In a separate incident, a person was injured in an explosion in his house at Sivasagar Station Chariali in Upper Assam on Tuesday morning.
The person, suspected to have links with United Liberation Front of Asom (Liberation) was injured in a grenade blast and later admitted to a nearby hospital. Police also recovered a bomb from his house.
On the other hand, security forces recovered six bombs, eight detonators and several rounds of AK-47 ammunition from Hatigaon bagan area in Goalpara district along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday.
